There were 62 passengers and five crew members on board the plane. Although the existence of survivors was confirmed, the extent of their injuries has not yet been determined, according to available reports.

The accident occurred near the Aktau airport in Kazakhstan and the aircraft caught fire after impact.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Kazakhstan mobilized 52 troops and 11 units to the scene of the incident, according to local media. “Fire extinguishing efforts are underway, and preliminary reports confirm that there are survivors,” MES officials said.

The Embraer 190 aircraft, used on this flight, has the capacity to transport between 96 and 114 passengers, depending on the cabin configuration. According to FlightAware, the plane took off from Baku 11 minutes before the scheduled time. While flying over the Caspian Sea, it issued an emergency signal.

Azerbaijani media reported that the aircraft failed to obtain clearance to land in Grozny due to foggy conditions.forcing the flight to be diverted first to Makhachkala and then to Aktau.
