“It was a hard time. There’s nothing else to say other than that. It was really, really hard for us. And for everyone, I think,” the Crown Princess revealed in the conversation. According to NRK estimates, several thousand news articles have appeared since Høiby’s arrest on August 4th. The Crown Prince couple are currently receiving professional treatment, Mette-Marit and her husband, Crown Prince Haakon (51), revealed in the conversation.
“I do not believe that without this help we would have been able to be in such a situation together as a family and at the same time fulfill our obligations to the Norwegian people,” said the Crown Princess.
King Harald sees drug abuse as a global problem
Marius Borg Høiby admitted to attacking his girlfriend at the time while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine and destroying objects. Norwegian King Harald (87) told NRK: “Let me first say that the problem of drugs and violence and mental health is a problem in Norway and the whole world. It is a problem that we have been working on and which we will continue to work on.”
When the Crown Prince couple was asked during their interview for a word to describe the past year, they said “demanding.” “It was a challenging year and a challenging autumn for us,” said Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
When asked about the criticism that has often been heard and read that they had hardly commented publicly on the Høiby case, Crown Prince Haakon said in the interview: “I honestly believe that it would not have been right to be as open as I was about this matter some have wanted it because there are so many considerations that need to be taken into account.”
