Mourning for Hannelore Hoger: The German actress died on December 21st in Hamburg at the age of 82. Her manager confirmed the sad news on behalf of Hoger’s daughter Nina Hoger (63). Between 1994 and 2018, the acting star portrayed Hamburg Chief Detective Bella Block in the ZDF series of the same name.
Hamburg-born Hannelore Hoger followed in her father Leo Hoger’s footsteps with her acting career. She completed her training at the University of Music and Theater in her hometown. This was followed by theater engagements in Ulm, Bremen and Bochum, among others, from the 1960s onwards. As a director, Hoger also staged stage plays herself. In 1965 she made her film debut in “Day by Day”.
Theater and crime roles
She then worked several times with director Alexander Kluge (92), including for “The Artists in the Circus Dome: at a Loss” (1968), “Germany in Autumn” (1977) and “The Power of Feelings” (1983). Hoger became known to crime fans with “Bella Block” and the role of private detective Charlotte Burg in the Sat.1 series “Die Drei” (1996-1997). The “Bella Block” series ended in 2018 after 24 years.
In addition to roles in television films such as “The Zurich Engagement – Script for Love” and “Long Live the Queen”, Hoger, who also worked as an audio book and radio play narrator, took on other film roles. Among other things, she was seen on the big screen in “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” and “Rossini – or the murderous question of who slept with whom”. In 2021 she was present on TV again, in the ZDF television film “Back to the Sea” with daughter Nina Hoger and in the ZDF crime series “Nord Nord Mord”. Her autobiography “Without love the stars mourn. Pictures from my life” was published in 2017.
