The alleged victim in the rape lawsuit against Jay-Z and Sean Combs is allowed to remain anonymous. A judge decided that.
Rapper Jay-Z (55) is not allowed to know the name of the woman who accuses him of rape with his colleague Sean “Diddy” Combs (55). The responsible judge in New York has now granted the alleged victim anonymity. This is according to court documents.
The woman alleges Jay-Z and Combs sexually assaulted her in 2000, when she was 13, after driving her to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty. She initially sued Sean Combs under the pseudonym in October and added Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) two months later. His lawyer then requested that the plaintiff reveal her identity. US District Judge Analisa Torres denied this request on Thursday (December 26).
Judge calls request “inappropriate”
“Carter’s attorney’s incessant filing of belligerent motions containing inflammatory language and personal attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client,” the magazine quotes from the document. The court will not speed up the process “just because a lawyer requests it,” she added.
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, previously wrote in a filing: “Mr. Carter deserves to know the identity of the person who is sensationally accusing him of criminal behavior in a highly publicized manner, demanding massive financial compensation and a claim he has earned over decades Reputation damaged.”
Plaintiff admitted “mistakes”.
According to People, the plaintiff admitted in a December 13 interview with NBC News that she had made “mistakes” and that there were “inconsistencies” in her recollection of the incident. However, she stands by her claims that Combs and Jay-Z raped her. “You should always stand up for yourself and be a voice for yourself,” said the now 38-year-old. “You should never let what someone else has done ruin or dictate your life.”
In the civil lawsuit filed Dec. 8 in New York City, the woman alleged that Combs and Carter drugged, assaulted and raped her while an unnamed female socialite looked on. Upon arriving at the party, the alleged victim had to sign a non-disclosure agreement and was then drugged with a drink. The woman said Combs later came up to her, had a “crazy look in his eyes” and told her, “You’re ready to party!” First Jay-Z raped her, then Combs. The plaintiff is demanding unspecified damages.
