Domínguez had a contract with Tigre until March 2025, but arranged his early departure to return to Vélez, this time in the role of technical director.
In the next few days Domínguez will sign his contract and in January he will begin his cycle replacing Quinteros, who decided not to renew despite having obtained the Professional League.
The new coach will encounter a team that lost Claudio Aquino, one of its best pieces on the field of play.
Furthermore, and although Vélez won the League, it suffered two hard blows in the final stretch of the year, as it lost the final of the Argentine Cup against Central Córdoba of Santiago del Estero, and then the Champions Trophy against Estudiantes.
Domínguez, 44, went through Vélez during his time as a soccer player between 2008 and 2014, and won five titles.
Then he retired, he was a field assistant to Hernán Crespo in Qatar soccer and he was also a commentator on a sports network.
Domínguez’s numbers in Tigre
On April 4 of this year, the former defender assumed the technical leadership of Tigre. At that time, the “Matador” from Victoria was in the last places of the local championship, on the verge of relegation.
At his start, Domínguez had a streak of seven consecutive games without wins. However, after various modifications and adjustments in the operation of his team, he found his way and positioned Tigre in 18th place in the table.
