The psychologist and reference Mothers of Plaza de Mayo – Founding Line Laura Jordan de Conte He died this Sunday at the age of 93. He dedicated much of his life to the fight for human rights and it was one of the founders of the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS). He also created the organization Memoria Abierta and joined the Provincial Commission for Memory.

Forty-eight years ago he was looking for his son, Augusto María, who remains missing after being kidnapped while doing military service during the last dictatorship. Since then, he joined the Mothers of Plaza de Mayoa group that reported the disappearance of their children and demanded answers.

“During the dictatorship he made appointments and turned his car or a bar into a psychoanalytic office for people who were clandestine. Outside of his car, he created the Mental Health area of ​​CELS to accompany relatives and victims of State terrorism. She participated in the brand new National Women’s Meetings and stood at the front, along with others, with her white scarf on her head, in the first pride marches to avoid police repression. His signature appears in the magazine Cerdos&Peces to support the campaign of the Commission for the Defense of Everyday Freedoms: ‘For the Repeal of Police Edicts and the Investigation of Background’. The scarf functioned those times as a shield, symbol and superpower,” CELS recalled through a text shared on its website.

He promoted the areas of Mental Health and Memory within the CELSwhere he worked in the psychoanalytic accompaniment of people affected by the forced disappearances and the violence of the last military dictatorship in Argentina.

Jordán de Conte was president of the organization between 1999 and 2000after the death of the founder Emilio Mignone. His son Gonzalo is currently a member of the Board of Directors.

“He had unbreakable ethics, confidence in the future and in the possibilities of repair. He leaves us an enormous legacy, like his commitment. We are going to miss her“, they expressed.
