The Emmy Award-winning installment was written by Brooker and directed by Toby Haynes. It follows Daly (Plemons), a reclusive but talented programmer and co-founder of a popular massively multiplayer online game who is resentful of the lack of recognition of his position from his co-workers. Telling a story that evokes themes of fragile masculinity and the dangers of technology, Daly takes out his frustrations by simulating a Star Trek-style space adventure within the game, using his co-workers’ DNA to create sentient digital clones of them, with terrifying consequences.
“The USS Callister will return… Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, the problems are just beginning”reads a trailer released by Netflix at an event in London in March.
