“Endless possibilities”: Céline Dion’s emotional New Year’s wish
For Céline Dion, 2024 was a year in which she fought – and won. Her performance at the Olympics was a triumph, both musically and over her illness.
Probably one of the personalities who felt the love of their fans most clearly last year is Céline Dion. The Canadian with the impressive voice has been a star since she was a teenager. She became famous worldwide with the smash hit of James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster “Titanic” – “My Heart Will Go On”. A song, by the way, that Dion himself didn’t particularly like.
After the great successes, there were always dramas in the 56-year-old’s life: the cancer and finally the death of her husband René in 2016, and just a little later her brother also died of cancer. Then the tabloids kept showing pictures of Céline Dion looking emaciated and unhappy. Before too much speculation could arise, the singer herself went public: She suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome, an incurable and unpredictable disease. With the autoimmune disease, the muscles become increasingly painful, so that walking and movement are extremely restricted. In Dion’s case, singing too.

For the Canadian, 2024 was a year of fighting and winning. After she had to cancel numerous concerts in 2023, no one expected to see her on stage again in the near future. But when the Olympic Games came around and Dion was suggested to sing Edith Piaf’s classic “L’Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower, she decided to tackle this project. She prepared for months, physically and mentally. And everything went well – the performance was perfect and brought tears to the eyes of millions of viewers.
Now the singer shared a very personal look back at this special year. She addressed emotional words to her fans on her Instagram channel: “I would like to take a moment and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support. Your love and energy are an inspiration to me every day.”

After the usual good wishes for the turn of the year, Dion expresses another wish that she has already sufficiently proven that she can fulfill: “Here’s to endless new possibilities in the new year!” And it makes it more than clear that she has no intention of surrendering to her fate and retiring. This message resonated with her followers: “Your courage and determination shine so brightly. I admire you very much and am so excited to see what awaits us,” writes one fan under Dion’s post on Instagram.
