“Better Man” is in German cinemas as of today. The Robbie William biopic was largely shot in Melbourne. As a thank you, the international star is now surprising his Australian fans.
Robbie Williams surprised fans in Australia with a free concert that was recently announced. As part of his promotional tour for the biopic “Better Man”, the British superstar (50) sang some of his best-known songs from the film, including the mega hit “Angels”, at Federation Square in Melbourne. Viewers enthusiastically posted videos on social networks. The choice of location was not a coincidence: “Better Man” was largely filmed in Melbourne.
The concert was only announced on Wednesday: “Robbie Williams. Fed Square. Tomorrow. 5pm. For Free,” the Prime Minister of the state of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, posted briefly on X. The news immediately went viral.
According to media reports, some hardcore fans from other parts of the country immediately got on a plane to the east coast metropolis. Thousands of people gathered in the square many hours before the one-hour gig. Huge screens had been installed for everyone who couldn’t make it to Fed Square.
Williams, who appeared in a white suit, said he wanted to come Down Under more often in the future. “I feel incredibly at home here, I feel safe and I also feel loved,” he enthused. On New Year’s Eve, the entertainer performed a 40-minute show on Sydney Harbor shortly before the bombastic New Year’s fireworks display, which was broadcast nationally on television.
“Better Man” (in German cinemas today) tells the story of the former Take That member’s meteoric rise and has been well received by critics so far. The reason is also a clever device: Williams is embodied by an animated monkey.
