Because he used his cell phone while driving, Stormzy had to leave the car for long periods of time. It’s not the British rapper’s first traffic offense.
The new year started with bad news for British rapper Stormzy. The 31-year-old was given a nine-month driving ban because he was caught driving with his cell phone, the British news agency PA reported from a courtroom in London.
He was driving a Rolls-Royce in the posh Kensington district when a plainclothes police officer saw him with his cell phone in his hand in March last year. Stormzy pleaded guilty.
Stormzy: Six points because of the grass
This is not the first time that the hip-hop star, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, has come into conflict with British road traffic regulations. Before the driving ban because of lawns, he had already received six points on the register for traffic offenders.
The royal couple of the music industry – but their empire is shaky
The abuse scandal involving US rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs (left) has been dominating the headlines for months. The 55-year-old has been in custody since September and is awaiting his trial, which is scheduled to take place in May 2025. The number of lawsuits is now so high that it is easy to lose track. Another prominent name has now appeared in an updated civil lawsuit against Combs: Jay-Z, real name Shawn Corey Carter. In September 2000, the musician is said to have drugged and raped a girl who was only 13 years old together with Combs. The incident is said to have occurred at a party organized by Combs on the sidelines of the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. Jay-Z, who was already friends with Beyoncé at the time, denies the allegations and calls them “disgusting” in a statement

He also repeatedly drove with a heavily tinted windshield, for example in a Lamborghini Urus, with which he was stopped and warned by the police in October 2023.
In addition to the driving ban, Stormzy must pay a fine of 2,000 pounds (around 2,400 euros), the judge decided, according to PA.
