Fires in Bariloche: there are already more than 2,100 hectares affected in the Nahuel Huapi Park

The National Parks Administration I mapped the area of The Apple Trees and revealed that there are already more than 2122 hectares affected by outbreaks of active fire. The survey was carried out through aerial monitoring aboard a helicopter.

These are spaces that are found in the intangible zone of the National Park, where there are no populated areas or public access. So spaces linked to tourism remain open.

Containment tasks continue in Bariloche due to the fires in the Nahuel Huapi Park

Currently, more than 27 brigade members are working to contain the fires in the Lago Los Manzanos sector. There they carry out tasks to create a new containment point towards Cerro Bastión.

Regarding the Laguna Quetro and Cerro Colorado sector, the difficulties of the terrain and the vegetation itself prevented penetration into the perimeter for the moment. 43 brigade members are stationed there.

Improvements in visibility in Laguna Quetro and Los Manzanos have allowed the use of aerial means with the deployment of water. In Steffen they are working to set up a camp for the entry of 60 brigade members.

It is believed that the fire occurred due to recent storms that affected the area. In this sense, the National Park Administration detailed: “Taking into account that A considerable amount of lightning strikes were recorded as a result of the electrical storm on December 16it is most likely that these spotlights are a product of it.”

The situation led to the formation of a National Park Emergency Committeewhich works together with the Directorate of Fighting Forest Fires and Emergencies, Civil Protection of Barilocheand the teams of the SPLIF (Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Service) Bariloche and The Baggins.
