In the Netflix dating show, 30 singles take the plunge into blind happiness in love: without being distracted by external appearances, they look for the big feelings.
Love at first sight? None! In “Love is Blind: Germany” it’s not what you look like that counts, but what you have to say to each other. 30 singles dare to do the dating experiment: sitting in opaque cubicles without seeing each other, they only hear the voice of the other person.
Can you fall in love through deep conversations alone – and then commit forever? Only those who ask the all-important question “Will you marry me?” also gets to see the person he loves. The first German version of the Netflix dating show can be seen on the streaming platform from today.
In love, engaged, married?
23 million singles live in Germany. For a select few among them, the dating format offers a new chance at happiness in love. There are 15 dating partners to choose from – which means there are several opportunities to score points: taking notes, asking questions, guessing the star sign – the participants grasp at any straw to get to know their counterpart better.
Some people rush headlong into a blind love adventure, others are initially skeptical. But even rock-hard hearts quickly open up – for some even to more than one candidate. Not an easy decision. Whoever manages to fall in love kneels in front of the opaque wall at the end of the first round and proposes – and hopes that the chosen one says “yes”. In this season, only the male participants actually take on the proposal part in the old-fashioned way.
Then things get really exciting: After the engagement, the wall falls – and the couples look into each other’s eyes for the first time. A moment full of emotions, doubts and surprises. Can the appearance and sexual attraction keep up with the previous impressions from the box? This becomes apparent on vacation together, where the couples also meet the other engaged couples. For some, this encounter leads to further doubts about their decision. For others, however, happiness in love seems perfect.
After this early honeymoon, the couples move in together and get married four weeks later – if everything continues to be rosy. Because now everyday life begins, the perfect film set is history. Getting to know family and friends also puts the fresh happiness of love to a tough test on the way to the altar. At the same time, wedding preparations are in full swing. In the final showdown it is decided: is love really blind?
The show is accompanied by the presenter couple Steffi Brungs and Chris Wackert-Brungs. The two have already found their own happiness in love together and are happily married. The original US version of “Love is Blind” premiered in 2020 and has become a global phenomenon. The format also became a success outside the United States in Brazil, Japan, Sweden, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina and the United Kingdom.
