Neil Young just turned down an appearance at the legendary British music festival Glastonbury. Now the Canadian musician is making a U-turn.
Musician Neil Young (79) now wants to perform at the legendary British music festival Glastonbury after turning it down shortly before. Young (“Heart of Gold”, “Harvest Moon”) will perform in June, the organizers announced on Instagram. Glastonbury is one of the most famous music festivals in the world.
Young had previously accused the festival of being too much under “corporate influence”, as the British news agency PA reported. He explicitly mentioned the British broadcaster BBC, which has been working with the festival as a broadcasting partner since 1997.
According to a BBC report, Young and the broadcaster had been in lengthy negotiations over how much of his concert could be broadcast when he last performed in 2009.
“Because of incorrect information, I decided not to play the Glastonbury Festival, which I have always loved,” Young said. “Fortunately, the festival is now back on our schedule and we’re looking forward to playing there.” Festival organizer Emily Eavis said they couldn’t wait to welcome Young: “He does things his way and that’s why we love him.”
The Canadian musician also withdrew his music from the Spotify streaming service a few years ago. He justified the move at the time with the spread of false information about the coronavirus. Two years later, the folk rock musician returned to the platform.
