He performed at the legendary “Woodstock” festival, invented Latino rock and sold more than 100 million albums. Now guitar legend Carlos Santana has to slow down.
Guitar legend Carlos Santana (“Smooth”) has to cancel a concert series in Las Vegas planned for the end of January due to an injury. The 77-year-old “fell badly and broke the little finger of his left hand” while taking a walk in Hawaii, where he owns a house, his management said on the musician’s Instagram profile.
At the beginning of December, the native Mexican announced that he would continue his concert series with his band at the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas this year. Santana has been playing his biggest hits here for 13 years now. Things should have continued on January 22nd. Now the performances have been canceled.
Santana will not be able to play guitar for about six weeks, his management said. “But the doctors say he will make a full recovery.” Alternative dates will be announced at a later date.
Santana, born in Mexico in 1947, rose to stardom with his band at the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969. The multiple Grammy winner is considered the inventor of Latin rock. He has been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1998. Santana’s classics include “Black Magic Woman,” “Samba Pa Ti” and a guitar-driven version of “Oye Como Va.”
