Nicole Kidman (57) picked up an award on Friday evening (January 3rd) at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Australian-American actress was honored with the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. She was recognized for her role in the erotic thriller “Babygirl.”

Kidman first thanked “Babygirl” filmmaker Halina Reijn (49) on stage. She then explained that she was still grieving for her mother. Kidman’s mother Janelle Ann (1940-2024) died last September at the age of 84. The actress explained tearfully that she wanted to dedicate the prize to her after she was unable to do so in Venice. Kidman was in attendance at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where she was scheduled to accept the Best Actress award. In the Italian city she learned of her mother’s death, and Kidman quickly canceled the awards ceremony.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say, ‘This is for my mother,'” Kidman said in Palm Springs. Her entire career is for her mother and father, who are not here now. “I’m still going to keep working and giving to the world because I love what I do and I love you all and I’m so grateful for the privilege of being part of the film community,” explained Kidman, who opened up about her emotional outburst apologized. “I’m sorry for crying, I didn’t mean to do that. But I’m feeling my mother right now, so this is for you.”
