Both had separate careers: Britta Ernst took her to the Brandenburg Ministry of Education, her husband Olaf Scholz to the Chancellery. Ernst can also gain good things from your resignation.
Britta Ernst (SPD) also sees advantages in her departure from politics. “I would have liked to have completed the electoral period as a minister,” said the former Brandenburg Education Minister and wife of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to the weekly newspaper “Zeit”. She resigned from her ministerial post in April 2023, citing a lack of support within her own ranks.
“But now I live healthier, I eat less sandwiches. I don’t want to complain, but anyone in politics lives with deprivation: you read less good literature, it’s difficult to make it to a concert because of the long working days in office “, Ernst told “Zeit”.
Ernst: “I have my own life”
Ernst and Scholz have been married since 1998 and have both made careers in politics. “I have my own life,” Ernst said. “Women are telling me that they think it’s cool how I do it.” Since her withdrawal, she has appeared more frequently in public with her husband, including on trips abroad.
Commitment to memory work and sport
Ernst is now active as a board member of the International Youth Meeting Center at the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz and sits on the executive board of the German branch of the Special Olympics movement, a sports movement for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.
Politics will catch up with the former minister again on her birthday: on the day of the early federal election, February 23rd, Ernst will be 64 years old.
