Shortly before the Golden Globes were awarded, there was a celebration in Hollywood – two celebrities can look forward to very special trophies.
In the run-up to the Golden Globe Awards, two acting greats were celebrated with honorary trophies in Beverly Hills. Hollywood star Viola Davis (59) was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for special achievements in film. TV star Ted Danson (77) accepted the Carol Burnett Award on Saturday night. According to the awards presenters, stars such as Meryl Streep, Carol Burnett, Jane Fonda and Steve Guttenberg attended the celebration.
For the first time, the honorary awards were presented as part of their own “Golden Gala”. The 82nd Golden Globes awards ceremony in 27 film and TV categories is scheduled to take place in Beverly Hills on Monday night.
The award-winning Davis won a Golden Globe and an Oscar in 2017 for her supporting role in the drama “Fences.” The Cecil B. DeMille Award, which has been awarded since 1952, has previously gone to greats such as Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep, Barbra Streisand, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
TV star Danson is best known for his role as a bartender in the comedy series “Cheers.” The three-time Globe winner also starred in films such as Saving Private Ryan, Infidelities and Three More Men and a Baby. TV icon Carol Burnett (91) was the first recipient of the honorary award in 2019, followed by Ellen DeGeneres and Norman Lear, among others.
