On the evening of January 5th, the Golden Globes will be awarded for the 82nd time in Los Angeles. This is how the award ceremony will be organized this year.
The Golden Globes ring in the awards season in Los Angeles again this year. The prestigious awards ceremony will take place for the 82nd time on Sunday evening (January 5th). Some films and actors can hope for a particularly large number of awards. But even before the event, the Hollywood stars celebrated at a party.
“Emilia Pérez” as the big favorite
The feature film “Emilia Pérez” with Selena Gomez (32) in the lead role received the most nominations. Jacques Audiard’s (72) work could win ten prizes, including for best film in the “Comedy/Musical” category. The post-war drama “The Brutalist” is behind the film with seven nominations. Edward Berger’s (54) thriller “Conclave” also has a good chance of winning a Golden Globe. He could hold his own in six categories.
The musical film adaptation “Wicked,” which recently became the most successful musical adaptation, was nominated four times. While Cynthia Erivo (37) could be named best actress in the comedy/musical category, Ariana Grande (31) is fighting for the award for best supporting actress. However, the “Emilia Pérez” stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña (46) could also be happy about this. Erivo also has well-known competition: Zendaya (28, “Challengers”) and Demi Moore (62, “The Substance”) are among those in the running for the title of best leading actress in a comedy or musical.
Will “Baby Reindeer” be named the best miniseries?
Timothée Chalamet (29) for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” or “Konklave” star Ralph Fiennes (62) could emerge as “Best Actor – Drama”. However, Adrien Brody (51) is considered the favorite for his performance in “The Brutalist”. Paul Mescal (28), who played the lead role in “Gladiator II,” received no nominations. On the other hand, co-star Denzel Washington (70) is among the contenders for the award for best supporting actor.
The Golden Globes focus not only on films but also on TV series. The shows “The Bear”, “Only Murders in the Building”, “The Penguin” and “Shogun” have been nominated multiple times. The popular shows “Baby Reindeer” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” are competing in the “Best Miniseries” category.
Transmission in Germany?
The Golden Globes will be awarded this Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. After the US comedian Jo Koy (53) took over the moderation last year, the stand-up comedienne Nikki Glaser (40) will present the award show in 2025. Glaser is the first woman to host the evening without another host.
The awards ceremony can be seen in the USA on the CBS channel. The streaming provider Paramount+ will also broadcast the event overseas. It is unclear whether the streaming service is also available to subscribers in Germany.
The official live red carpet pre-show will be hosted by Entertainment Tonight correspondent Rachel Smith and Variety Senior Culture and Events Editor Marc Malkin. The pre-show livestream will be at 6:30 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)/3:30 p.m. PDT (Pacific Daylight Time).
Party and awards ceremony before the Golden Globes
For some actors there was reason to celebrate even before the awards ceremony. At the “Golden Gala” on January 3rd, Viola Davis (59) was delighted to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for special achievements in film. Ted Danson (77) was presented with the Carol Burnett Award. In addition to the award winners, Hollywood greats such as Meryl Streep (75) and Jane Fonda (87) were also said to have been present at the celebration, as the media reported, citing the organizers.
