Jeff Baena’s death shocks Hollywood. Aubrey Plaza and the family spoke out in a statement on January 6th.
Actress Aubrey Plaza (40) spoke out for the first time after the death of her husband Jeff Baena (1977-2025). “It is an unimaginable tragedy,” she and the family said in a statement.
Family wants privacy
The screenwriter and director, known, among other things, for the HBO series “The White Lotus”, committed suicide on January 3rd at the age of just 47. Aubrey Plaza subsequently failed to appear at the Golden Globe Awards on January 5th. A day later, she addressed the public together with her late husband’s family. The statement, which various media outlets such as and quote, continues: “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Baena has more than a dozen directing and film credits to her credit. He made his directorial debut by writing and directing Life After Beth, a zombie comedy starring Plaza, and subsequently created an anthology series titled Cinema Toast, which aired on Showtime in 2021. Aubrey Plaza, who first became known for the comedy series “Parks and Recreation”, also appeared in several of her partner’s films over the years such as “Life After Beth” and “Spin Me Round”.
Married since 2021
The couple met in 2011. Fans learned that the two married ten years later in May 2021 when she referred to him as her “dear husband” in an Instagram post.
