People fled a fire in a celebrity neighborhood in Los Angeles. Actor Steve Guttenberg helped the emergency services.
Pacific Palisades, a posh residential area of Los Angeles, is threatened by a forest fire that has spread rapidly. Tens of thousands of people were called to evacuate after the fire broke out last Tuesday (January 7, around 10:30 a.m. local time). The flames have already burned more than 1,200 hectares of land and the winds are causing the fire to continue to spread. A state of emergency was declared in the region.
While many residents of the town located between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific escaped to safety after the evacuations, actor Steve Guttenberg (66) stayed on site and helped the emergency services. Because on Palisades Drive, an important main street in the district, many people quickly got out of their cars and fled on foot.
A television station in Los Angeles: “People are taking their keys as if they were in a parking lot. But it’s not a parking lot. We really need people to drive their cars away.” The “Police Academy” actor also shared the call: “If you leave your car behind, leave the key in it so someone like me can drive your car away so the fire engines can go up there. That’s very important.”
The actor, who lives in the area himself, also explained that he has friends around him who could not be evacuated because of the traffic jam on Palisades Drive. “There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m running up as far as I can to move the cars.”
Premiere events canceled
the area’s most famous residents include Jennifer Aniston (55), Bradley Cooper (50), Eugene Levy (78), Tom Hanks (68) and Rita Wilson (68), Reese Witherspoon (48), Adam Sandler (58) or Michael Keaton (73).
Due to the emergency situation, some events have been canceled. The premiere of the medical series “The Pitt”, originally planned for January 8th in Los Angeles, was canceled. Paramount also canceled the LA premiere of the Robbie Williams biopic “Better Man”, also planned for Wednesday. Universal canceled it on Tuesday World premiere of the horror film “Wolf Man”, Amazon at the premiere of the Jennifer Lopez film “Unstoppable”.
