German basketball icon Dirk Nowitzki: New job as an expert in the NBA

Dirk Nowitzki (46) returns to the NBA world. The former German basketball player, who ended his active career in 2019, will play for Amazon Prime Video. In the next season of the North American professional league, he will share his expertise with the audience alongside presenter Taylor Rooks (32) and ex-NBA player Blake Griffin (35). His deployment is announced for October.

“I’m excited to join the Amazon family and honored to be a part of NBA coverage,” Nowitzki said in a statement. “I’ve always wanted to stay close to the game I love, and building something new with this talented team is an experience I’m really looking forward to.” He is very grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started. Nowitzki himself was on the court in the NBA for years. From the 1998/99 season to 2019, he played 21 seasons, all of which he spent with the Dallas Mavericks and became NBA champions with the team in 2011. He was also nominated for the NBA All-Star Game 14 times.

Prime Video has finished with the NBA, it was announced in July 2024. The agreement, which begins with the 2025/26 NBA season, stipulates that the streaming service will show, among other things, 66 regular NBA games, the NBA Cup or the Conference Finals. “Prime Video will distribute its games package in the US and internationally, with an expanded games package in select territories including Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, UK and Ireland,” it said in a statement.
