From January 2025the Customs Collection and Control Agency (ARCA) will implement stricter restrictions on products that can enter Argentina. Following the update of transaction reporting amounts, the agency published a detailed list of products that will be prohibitedwhich will affect both travelers and informal imports.
Customs authorities will intensify controls at entry points to the country with the aim of protecting the local economy and prevent the entry of illicit items or products intended for informal trade. It is important to take these restrictions into account, since many citizens take advantage of their trips abroad to acquire products at lower pricesespecially in sectors such as technology and clothing.
Trips abroad: tax-free purchase limit rises to $500
The limit for those traveling by land transportation is $300 per person, with an additional excess valid only in Puerto Iguazú.
New customs controls by 2025?
The updating of the restrictions by ARCA seeks to ensure that the products entering the country comply with international regulations and do not affect national productive sectors. In particular, emphasis is placed on preventing the marketing of products that do not meet established standards, which could harm local industries.
Within the new measuresthe strictest restrictions on certain products stand out, affecting both travelers and informal imports. ARK updated the list of prohibited products, ensuring that those items that could negatively impact the country’s productive sectors do not enter the market.
In addition, customs controls will be more rigorous, with exhaustive examination of luggage to detect possible contraband, such as arms, explosives, narcotic substancesand merchandise intended for commercial or industrial uses without proper authorization.
On the other hand, the franchises and tariffs for permitted products are clearer and more accessible, establishing limits such as 500 dollars per person on air or sea travel and 300 dollars for land travel. If the goods exceed these limits, travelers must pay a tariff of 50% on the surplus.
In addition, ARCA recommended that travelers keep the purchase invoices of products purchased abroad, which will facilitate customs inspection and expedite the process of entry into the country.

What are the products that can be entered into Argentina and which cannot?
According to ARCA regulations, certain items such as cell phones, notebooks and tablets can enter Argentina without paying taxes, as long as they are destined for the personal use and non-commercial. However, there are limits regarding the values allowed for the entry of products, which vary depending on the means of transportation used and the age of traveler. If the value of the purchased goods exceeds the allowed amount, travelers must pay a additional tariff on the surplus.
Among the prohibited products are those that violate safety regulations, such as arms, explosives, narcotic substances and objects of archaeological or cultural value. Furthermore, the merchandise intended for commercial or industrial uses is subject to specific regulations. The new restrictions seek to prevent the entry of these products and, at the same time, protect the local economy.
