“I had to go through it all alone”: “Unter uns” actress Isabell Hertel spoke about the difficult time after her tumor operation.

“Unter uns” veteran Isabell Hertel (51) spoke about her tumor operation a few years ago and its consequences. The actress made it clear the physical and psychological stress that the procedure entailed.

“There are hard times behind me”

A rare tumor was discovered in her spinal cord, “which only two doctors in Germany operate on,” explained the series star. Without surgery, you will inevitably end up in a wheelchair and remain paralyzed. “I was very afraid of that. I went to several doctors, my nerve fibers were checked and after an MRI I was told to take a warming blanket.” However, this didn’t help. After another complete MRI, a neurologist discovered the tumor, reported the Ute Kiefer actress.

Unfortunately, her spinal cord was affected during the operation. She had to learn again “that my legs obey me. My left foot was numb and kept slipping,” said Hertel. After the complicated operation, she had to take medication, which led, among other things, to thinning hair. “There are tough times behind me and I think that shows.”

She had been single for twelve years and “had to go through it all alone,” said the actress about the time of the examinations and the operation. Her parents, who are closest to her and who looked after her after the procedure, didn’t want to burden her too much and “a lot of lonely tears were shed.” She felt completely overwhelmed. “In the clinic I had a complete breakdown and cried a lot. In this situation, I would have really liked a partner to hold my hand and comfort me.”

Optimistic view of the future

After their separation, there were only a few flirtations, Hertel continued. “I don’t fall in love very easily and I seem to have an eye for difficult men.” She would want a partner, but not at any price, “because I can also be alone, work a lot and don’t feel lonely. Of course I miss eroticism and tenderness in my life, but that’s just the way it is now .” And how is your health? There is no guarantee whether the tumor will “come back, but at the moment I’m optimistic and looking forward,” said the actress.

Isabell Hertel had already reported in February 2022 about the benign tumor, which was diagnosed after an MRI and was completely removed by a specialist in an eight-hour operation at the beginning of January 2022. A “small emergency operation” followed due to problems with the drainage. She stayed in Hanover for a total of three weeks, including spending time with her parents to learn things like walking up stairs again. The actress reported at the time that it was getting better from week to week and that it could be completely regenerated.
