“The Wollnys” filming team is also like family
Even after 14 years, there is always something new to experience at “The Wollnys” – and the production team even has its own slippers.
Sylvana, Sarafina, Estefania, Lavinia and all the others are back! From January 8th (every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. and ) Germany’s most famous extended family will return to the screen in “The Wollnys – A Terribly Big Family” on RTLzwei. It is now the 17th season in which fans can follow the turbulent life surrounding the head of the family, Silvia Wollny (59).
With six adult daughters, their partners and many grandchildren, there is always something going on in the Wollny house. Recently, Sarah-Jane (26) in particular made headlines with her time on “Temptation Island VIP”, which will also be discussed in the new episodes. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, mom Silvia reveals what she thinks of her daughter’s participation in the TV loyalty test. She also talks about her family secret and the close relationship with the “The Wollnys” production team.
The 17th season of “The Wollnys” is now running. Why is your show so successful?
Silvia Wollny: We’ve been on RTLzwei since 2011 – that’s a really long time! Of course, we are also happy that our show is still being watched so much. Our fans always tell us that they love that we are so authentic and that we let our viewers get so close to us and our lives in good times and hard times.
After all these years, what appeals to you about still letting the camera follow your family life?
Wollny: We have a great production team around us who films and accompanies us in our everyday lives. We have known many of them for a very long time. Some of them have their slippers with us for the days of filming (laughs). The team is almost family. We don’t see the boys and girls as foreign bodies in our house that bother us or anything like that. That’s what makes shooting with them so pleasant and allows us to be who we are. It’s just fun.
There are also very private problems on display in “The Wollnys”. Were there moments in the new season where you wished the camera wasn’t there?
Wollny: No, as I said, the filming team is like family to us and not like intruders, that’s what makes it so nice and natural to deal with.
Family unity is a big issue for you. What is your secret to always finding each other despite different opinions – for example when raising your grandchildren?
Wollny: We all talk to each other a lot – even in difficult situations we always keep in touch. I think that’s the secret. We always express our opinions honestly – there are sometimes discussions and arguments. But if you talk to each other, you can always find a solution.
Her daughter Sarah-Jane was just seen on “Temptation Island VIP” and has attracted a lot of attention with her relationship. What do you think about your daughter’s charisma and relationship?
Wollny: Sarah-Jane is an adult and she made the decision to take part in “Temptation Island VIP” herself. To be honest, I didn’t know the show at all. I kept my fingers crossed for her and hoped that she would leave the loyalty test with the answers she wanted. And I was very happy to hug her again afterwards! It was crazy not having any contact for two weeks.
How do you generally feel about your children’s participation in reality TV formats?
Wollny: I discuss topics like this with my daughters when they come to me about it.
