After bizarre allegations of abuse, actor Armie Hammer’s career was considered over. Now he is desperately trying to restart.
A fallen Hollywood star wants to get back up: After Armie Hammer (38, “The Social Network”) stumbled across a bizarre sex scandal in 2021, he lost all engagements in the US film business. It is unlikely that his new film projects will propel him back into the top league of acting. At least he now landed a leading role – albeit in a film by the German trash director Uwe Boll (59).
Hammer’s promising film career
By 2021, the American actor was looking forward to a bright Hollywood future. After roles in series such as “Arrested Development” and “Desperate Housewives”, he made his big breakthrough in 2010 with a double role in David Fincher’s (62) “The Social Network”. A year later he was seen in Clint Eastwood’s (94) “J. Edgar” alongside stars like Leonardo DiCaprio (50) and Naomi Watts (56). He was showered with praise for his leading role in the romantic film “Call Me by Your Name” (2017), which was nominated for four Oscars.
Actor stumbled over ‘cannibalism’ scandal
However, in 2021, anonymously posted screenshots of Instagram chats came to light that suggested the actor’s disturbing sexual violence and cannibalistic fantasies. Hammer denied all allegations, but subsequently lost all acting engagements. From then on he was considered a “Hollywood cannibal” who could no longer make any money at the box office.
In October 2024, the fallen Hollywood star surprisingly announced a comeback in the film business. Under the title “Back in the saddle” he posted a photo of himself with a cowboy hat and a script in his hand, and later announced that he had accepted a role in the indie western “Frontier Crucible”.
In the same league as Micaela Schäfer
Hammer can now look forward to another commitment. In “The Dark Knight”, the latest project by the notorious German director Uwe Boll, he will be seen in a leading role again after a long time. The problem: Boll has the reputation of being the “worst director in the world,” and his lurid works like “Rampage: Capital Punishment” (2014) or “Zombie Massacre 2: Reich of the Dead” (2015) are filmed with notorious regularity torn apart by criticism. Even the German undressing artist Micaela Schäfer (41) was allowed to appear in a film (“Seed 2 – The New Breed”) by the trash director in 2014.
