Liam Payne died of “polytrauma,” a British court confirms. The investigation in Argentina continues.
The cause of death of Liam Payne (1993-2024) has been officially confirmed by an inquest in his native Great Britain,
The 31-year-old singer died on October 16th from “polytrauma”, according to the hearing that took place at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court in December and has only now become public. Polytrauma involves multiple life-threatening injuries.
An autopsy report shortly after Payne’s death determined that the singer had died from multiple injuries and “internal and external” bleeding.
Investigations continue
Chief Coroner Crispin Butler also told the hearing that there was an ongoing investigation in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam Payne’s death. Argentine prosecutors have filed manslaughter charges against five people in connection with the singer’s death. This involves, among other things, the delivery of drugs.
A toxicology report released by prosecutors in November said Payne had traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in his body at the time of his death.
Liam Payne became known through the British boy band One Direction. The singer died on October 16, 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the age of just 31. In November Payne was buried in Amersham, near London.
