How to care for blankets and padding

Simple care that ensures quality, comfort and design are preserved.

Summer has arrived and, with the heat, it is time to put away quilts, bedspreads, blankets and things related to winter and shelter in general. Sebastian Filcman, CEO of Kavanagha leader in home textiles, provides tips for washing and storing them in the best way.

“The durability of our products is given first of all by the high quality of the raw materials and the factories we use, but as with everything in general, they must be taken care of so that they last longer. That’s why we share these tips so that the blankets and padding retain their original properties for much longer and continue to provide comfort and style in your daily life,” he explains. Filcman.

Practical guide to care for your blankets and quilts

1- Appropriate temperature for washing to extend the useful life of the products:

  • Wash blankets and padding at a temperature of 30°C.
  • Avoid exceeding 60°C, as higher temperatures can damage the fibers and affect quality.

2- Washing, in a washing machine or by hand? The ideal washing method depends on the product:

  • Quilts and blankets: They can be washed in the washing machine using a gentle program.
  • Delicate quilts: we recommend hand washing with a little fabric softener to preserve its texture.

3- Correct drying. Proper drying is key to keeping the fibers in good condition:

  • If you use a dryer, opt for low temperature drying.
  • It can also be left to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated place.
  • For blankets, air drying best preserves their softness.

4- How to treat difficult stains. If stains appear that do not come out in the wash:

  • Apply a neutral detergent directly to the stain before washing.
  • In the case of water-resistant fabrics, such as some blankets, use a damp cloth to clean them without having to wash the entire product.

5- Storage out of season. Good storage ensures that products remain as good as new:

  • Store the padding in a dry and ventilated place, away from humidity.
  • Use vacuum bags if you want to save space and protect them better, and it is also ideal to use the same PVC bags in which the products usually come (ours come that way).

6- Regular ventilation. Ventilating products helps keep them fresh and odor-free:

  • For mulches, we recommend airing them in the sun once a week.
  • In the case of blankets, ventilation in the sun every fifteen days is sufficient.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid using bleach or aggressive detergents that may damage the materials.
  • Do not overload the washing machine; Leave room for products to be washed properly.
  • Wash blankets and padding separately to avoid friction with other fabrics.

With these simple care, you ensure that the blankets and padding retain their quality, comfort and design for much longer. Take care of them and enjoy them as they deserve!
