The wildfires in California also affect Adrien Brody. He cried on stage at an awards ceremony.
Adrien Brody (51) fought back tears during a speech due to the severe fires in California. The acting star couldn’t contain his emotions as he accepted his award at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Wednesday (January 8).
“It would be remiss not to mention what’s going on in our minds and hearts tonight,” Brody began his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award. “It was a hard day for me,” he said in a shaky voice. The “The Brutalist” star had to take a short break and cry before he could continue speaking, the magazine reports.
“So much suffering in the world”
Still audibly emotional, Brody apologized for the interruption, People’s video showed. “I’m sorry. It’s hard to accept something like this when there is so much suffering in the world. And my heart goes out to all the families, the animals and our colleagues,” he said. He went on to talk about the extent of the destruction and added: “This is our community.”
The acting star thanked the first responders for “their bravery and their dedication” and drew attention to how important their work is. The audience applauded the actor and his words of praise. “I just want to say that my thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible event,” Brody said. “I’m praying for her, and I know we’re all praying for her safety.”
Celebrities lost their homes
In addition to Brody, “Anora” director Sean Baker (53) also expressed his condolences to those affected. These also include numerous stars.
