Hilton to Kaulitz: Celebrities flee from flames

The major fires in California also affected many Hollywood celebrities. Some have to leave their villas behind. German stars are also fleeing the fire.

Bill Kaulitz flees the flames, Paris Hilton appears “heartbroken” and Ralf Moeller is shocked by the “decade-long fire”. The devastating major fires in California around Los Angeles also affected numerous stars. Reactions from Hollywood and surrounding areas:

According to her own statements, reality star Paris Hilton had to watch on television as her house fell victim to the devastating fires near Los Angeles. “My heart is heartbroken,” the 43-year-old wrote on the X platform. “I’m sitting with my family, watching the news and seeing our house in Malibu burning to the ground live on television.” She also shared a hand-shot video from a news report showing a burned area.

“We created so many precious memories in this house,” said the businesswoman, activist and singer. “It is the place where Phoenix took its first steps and where we dreamed of creating a lifetime of memories with London,” Hilton wrote, referring to her two children.

Singer Bill Kaulitz (35) also had to leave his house because of the fires. The Tokio Hotel frontman showed this in an Instagram story. The post shows his packed luxury suitcases, including a Red Cross emergency kit and two walkie-talkies.

There was great concern about Bill Kaulitz because it has been known since the Netflix documentary “Kaulitz & Kaulitz” that the musician lives in a Frank Lloyd Wright house in the Hollywood Hills. It is still uncertain whether Kaulitz’s twin brother Tom (35) and his wife, Heidi Klum (51), who live in nearby Bel Air, are also affected by the fires.

“No words,” wrote Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis on Instagram about a video of a car ride through burnt-out streets, past smoldering house ruins and charred palm trees. Curtis mourned the loss of her home, Pacific Palisades. “Our beloved neighborhood is gone,” she wrote on Instagram.

Her own house was spared, but so many other people lost everything. The hard-hit Pacific Palisades is a wealthy district in western Los Angeles with around 25,000 residents. Stars like Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon have homes there.

“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill, 73, told his Instagram followers that he left his home in Malibu “at the last minute.” He had already seen flames on the side of the road.

Actor Ralf Moeller (65), who lives in Santa Monica, is shocked. “It’s an inferno of flames. This fire is a decade-long fire, I have never experienced such a level of destruction in the last 30 years,” Moeller told the German Press Agency. The 65-year-old (“Gladiator”) says that Californians are used to fires, but there is still panic.

As a precaution, the actor from Recklinghausen left his penthouse on the coast on Tuesday and stayed in a hotel. This Friday he is scheduled to go back to Germany, where he will be promoting the craft at the BAU trade fair in Munich next week. “There will of course be a huge need for craftsmen here in the coming weeks. Maybe I can lure some here from Germany.”

Hollywood comedian and actor Billy Crystal’s villa went down in the flames. He and his wife Janice lost their home, where they had lived since 1979, the actor said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “Of course we are heartbroken, but with the love of our children and our friends we will get through this.”

Carsten Maschmeyer and Veronica Ferres

Financial investor Carsten Maschmeyer (65) and his wife Veronica Ferres (59) are also affected. “We are now being evacuated and are on the run,” Ferres wrote on Instagram. “This is an absolute nightmare,” Maschmeyer told “Bild”. “One of the worst experiences of my life. I fear for the lives of my family, my wife, my children and grandchildren.”

According to “Bild”, the house in which Maschmeyer’s son Maurice lived with his family for rent in Pacific Palisades burned down completely. The investor is now in Venice with his family.

Singer and actress Mandy Moore also lost her house. “My children’s school is gone, as are my favorite restaurants. So many friends and loved ones have also lost everything,” the 40-year-old wrote on Instagram. “Our community is broken, but we will be here and we will rebuild it together.”

Actor James Woods (77) described chaos on the streets in an interview with CNN. All the houses on his street had already burned. They would have had to flee to safety. Woods shared a video of a neighboring friend with his followers on X.

Hollywood show business is also affected. On January 17th, the Oscar Film Academy wanted to announce the contenders for Hollywood’s highest award. Due to the fires, this will now take place two days later, said managing director Bill Kramer in a letter to around 10,000 members, as US media reported. This gives filmmakers more time to vote on the candidates.

The distributors of the prestigious Critics Choice Awards have postponed their trophy gala in Santa Monica planned for this Sunday due to the fires, and film studios have canceled premieres.
