King Frederik and Queen Mary are on vacation: Crown Prince Christian represents his father

The Danish King Frederik (56) and his wife, Queen Mary (52), apparently traveled abroad privately. Crown Prince Christian (19) is currently representing his father as regent. According to the magazine, the palace confirmed the royal couple’s vacation. Mary and Frederik are supposedly expected back on Sunday.

The two’s private stay abroad takes place shortly before the one-year anniversary of the king’s accession to the throne. Frederik was proclaimed King of Denmark on January 14, 2024. Two weeks earlier, his mother, Queen Margrethe (84), had surprisingly announced her abdication in her New Year’s Eve speech.

Frederik said in his first New Year’s address as monarch that he and his wife “couldn’t have asked for a better start as king and queen.” January 14th was a very special day, said the king, looking back on the past year. “The drive through the streets of Copenhagen to Christiansborg Palace. My mother’s last State Councilor. The minutes before the doors to the balcony opened. A very deep breath. The square of Christiansborg Palace. The crowd in front of me. My family right behind me .” He then thanked people for their great support.

The royal family had another celebration to celebrate shortly after the New Year’s speech. Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine of Denmark celebrated their 14th birthday on January 8th. To mark this happy occasion, the royal family published three new photos of the children of King Frederik and Queen Mary on Instagram, among others. In addition to the twins and Crown Prince Christian, Mary and Frederik also have Princess Isabella (17).
