After her own house burned down, Paris Hilton wants to help families who lost everything. She is setting up a relief fund.
Live on the news, Paris Hilton watched her house burn down in Malibu. This is something “that no one should experience,” the 43-year-old wrote on Wednesday (January 8th). Just days later, the reality star launched a relief fund to support people who lost everything in the devastating fires in and around Los Angeles.
“My heart goes out to everyone affected by this devastating fire in LA,” Hilton begins her statement. Although she lost her home in Malibu, her thoughts are with the “countless families who have lost so much more.”
Paris Hilton comes forward with $100,000
In order to support those families who are now left with nothing, she is setting up an emergency fund through her non-profit organization 11:11 Media Impact. “I’m starting with a personal amount of $100,000,” explains Hilton. She will also match additional donations up to $100,000.
“As a mother, I can’t imagine the pain and fear of not having a safe place for your babies,” Hilton said. The donations are intended to provide families with children with short-term accommodation and hotel stays. In addition, vital goods and supplies should be brought to the evacuation centers and local animal shelters should be supported.
Thousands of buildings destroyed in Los Angeles
A day earlier, Hilton had taken her followers into the building, which had burned to the ground. In total, more than 12,000 buildings are said to have been destroyed or damaged by the fires. The death toll from the fire disaster in California has now risen to eleven. The responsible authority announced this on Friday, according to US media reports. Emergency services fear that the death toll could increase even further.
