In “Scout of Peace 2” Katharina Thalbach embodies a convinced communist. This is how her own move to the Federal Republic of Germany took place.
At the end of the month she will become a former GDR spy on the big screen. Acting star Katharina Thalbach (70), born in the GDR in 1954, can be seen in the cinema film sequel “Kundschafter des Friedens 2” from January 23rd. In an interview with “Bild am Sonntag” she revealed her very personal experiences with moving to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Katharina Thalbach lived in the West from the late 1970s
In the sequel to “Scouts of Peace,” Thalbach embodies the character Tamara, a talented technician and eternal revolutionary. The best-ager comedy “Scout of Peace” by director Robert Thalheim (50) attracted around 350,000 viewers to the cinemas at the beginning of 2017, as reported. In the sequel, Thalbach now joins the all-star cast around Henry Hübchen (played by Jochen Falk, 77) and Winfried Glatzeder (79), who once again lends his face to “Romeo agent” Harry.
In the interview, Thalbach reveals that she was more influenced by the first half of her life in the GDR. “The positive thing that came later is that I got to know the world,” explains the renowned actress, who moved from East to West Germany at the end of the 1970s.
And even more was new for the acclaimed acting star back then. “In the West we suddenly had to pay for everything,” reports Thalbach, “and you have to get the money together first.” It also took her “a very long time to understand that different stores offer the same things at different prices.”
