She’s not coming to Trump’s inauguration

Donald Trump is starting his second term in office: Michelle Obama will not be among the guests at his inauguration.

Disagreement in Washington? The Obama office confirmed on Tuesday, January 14th that former first lady Michelle Obama (60) will not attend the inauguration of Donald Trump (78) next week. However, former US President Barack Obama (63) will be present at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, January 20th.

“Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration”

“It is confirmed that former President Barack Obama will attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” a statement from Barack and Michelle Obama’s office said.

There is no explanation for her decision. Barack Obama’s wife is breaking the tradition of former presidents and their spouses attending the inauguration of the new president.

The Obamas were still present at Trump’s swearing-in in January 2017, as were future President Joe Biden (82) and his wife Dr. Jill Biden (73), Hillary Clinton (77) and former President Bill Clinton (78), former President George W. Bush (78) and former President Jimmy Carter (1924-2024). In addition to the Bidens, the Clintons as well as George W. Bush and his wife Laura (78) are also expected this time.

The announcement of Michelle Obama’s absence from the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States comes days after she made headlines for missing Jimmy Carter’s memorial service on January 9th. Trump himself declined to attend President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021 after his defeat in 2020.
