After Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, fraudsters took advantage of the opportunity and capitalized on it: They posed as Pitt and collected huge amounts of money.
Brad Pitt (61) has been happy at his partner Ines de Ramon’s side for some time now after his separation from Angelina Jolie (49). However, a woman from France believed for around a year and a half that she was dating the Hollywood star.
The now 53-year-old fell for a so-called love scam or romance scam. In this form of online fraud, victims are usually made to believe that they are in a relationship or even love in order to cheat them out of their money. The woman reported about it on the “Sept à huit” format on the TF1 channel.
Fraudsters fool French woman using AI
Fraudsters therefore used fake social media and WhatsApp accounts to deceive the 53-year-old with, among other things, images created by artificial intelligence (AI). Everything started at the beginning of 2023. According to reports, the woman was initially skeptical, but then fell for the scam.
The fraudster or fraudsters always found ways to avoid telephone conversations. The fraud went so far that the woman divorced her husband and transferred a total of around 830,000 euros – including for alleged medical treatments.
It has been claimed that Pitt currently does not have access to his accounts due to his divorce from Jolie. It was only when she saw reports about the star with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon that the woman became suspicious again. She finally filed a complaint last summer.
Austrian woman also falls for Brad Pitt fake
There have been similar cases in the past – including with other fake Brad Pitts. The ORF reported in December 2024 that such online fraud had occurred in Lower Austria. Here, too, there was talk of alleged money problems for the Hollywood star due to her divorce from Jolie.
“The woman believed this and transferred her entire savings plus a loan she had taken out, in the form of cryptocurrencies. In total, the damage amounts to 150,000 euros,” .
Pitt and Jolie married in 2014 and she filed for divorce around two years later. The two were declared legally single in 2019. The two parties finally seem to have reached agreement on the divorce recently. reported in late 2024, citing Jolie’s lawyers, that the two had signed divorce papers.
