Before his acting career, David Schwimmer delivered divorce papers for his mother, divorce attorney Arlene Coleman-Schwimmer.
David Schwimmer, 58, has revealed he once served singer Rod Stewart, 80, with divorce papers while helping out his mother before his acting career. In the US talk show “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, the actor looks back on the odd jobs he had before he made it big in Hollywood with the series “Friends”, among others.
“One summer after my freshman year of college, I was looking for work,” he remembers. “My mother was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who emerged from the bushes and served the divorce papers.”
He felt like James Bond
Schwimmer was 18 years old at the time and, according to him, felt like James Bond because he often got tips on where the recipients of the papers might be and then ambushed them with the unpleasant documents. “One time – oh man, thank God I’ve never met him since – I served the papers to Rod Stewart,” Schwimmer says. “I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”
However, after the show airs, the story is public. “Theoretically you could meet Rod Stewart at some point! Now he knows he can beat you,” joked presenter Stephen Colbert (60).
At the time, Stewart and his first wife Alana Stewart (79) were divorcing after tying the knot in 1979. The rock musician admitted a few years ago that at 34 he was “too young” for marriage.
Around six years after his divorce, he married the model Rachel Hunter (55) and later divorced a second time. Shortly afterwards he met his current wife, Penny Lancaster (53).
