Katerina Jacob did not want her daughter to repeat the mistake that her mother had made. But she was “not an ideal mother”.

Honest words from Katerina Jacob (66): In a double interview with her daughter Josephine (43), the German actress admits that she was often unable to be there for her child because of her job. Although Josephine Jacob still had a wonderful childhood, she took a different path with her children.

Katerina Jacob: “I never wanted that, but I had no backup”

“I actually didn’t want to make the mistake my mother made with me,” says Katerina Jacob in the latest issue of “Bunte” magazine. However, she was a single parent: “I had to earn money, just like my mother. So Josie was unfortunately left in the care of nannies. I never wanted that, but I had no back-up.”

Her daughter grew up with Jacob’s mother Ellen Schwiers, who died in 2019. Acting is a job that can’t actually go hand in hand with children. “You’re away for months,” explains the “Bulle von Tölz” star. “I was on tour a lot and when I returned I was really afraid that my daughter would ask, ‘Who are you?'” Jacob knew that she was “not an ideal mother” in this respect, even if Josephine was a dream child. Her daughter knows “that she can come to me with anything, that I will always support her, no matter what happens.”

When the actress was at home, she did a lot with her daughter and gave her lots of gifts. Jacob “wanted to make up for it.” But she now knows that what was actually missing was her mother. Josephine “lived partly with my parents because we all worked,” Jakob said in an interview with the news agency spot on news a few months after Schwiers’ death. “I was raised by nannies who weren’t always very nice. I then tried to find nice nannies for my own daughter.”

Today, Josephine reports that she still had a happy childhood, even if she did things differently with her own children. “I grew up in the country and had a great childhood,” she tells “Bunte”. “I made the decision with my two sons: I want to be there, do everything myself, no nanny. I gave up my career for this and it was the best decision. I’m still at home and we are very close.”

Katerina Jacobs’ relationship is also very good. “She’s the funny grandma. The kids love her,” says Josephine. Katerina confirms that they do “all kinds of nonsense,” even as she gets older.
