Each year, the Writers Guild of America Awards honor the best writers in film, television, streaming or radio away from the spotlight.
The nominations for the 77th Writers Guild Awards have been revealed. The annual awards honor the best authors of the year in film, television, streaming, news, radio and advertising copy. The WGA published the list of all those chosen.
Nominees in one of the key Original Screenplay categories include: “Anora,” written and directed by Sean Baker, the Justin Kuritzkes-penned tennis film “Challengers,” Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain,” Alex Garland’s “Civil War,” and Megan Park’s “My Old Ass.”
In the Adapted Screenplay category is Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox’s “Wicked.” Also James Mangold and Jay Cocks’ Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” as well as RaMell Ross and Joslyn Barnes’ version of the Colson Whitehead novel “Nickel Boys” and “Dune: Part 2” by Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts. Also nominated are Richard Linklater and Glen Powell’s “Hit Man.”
The nominees in the Comedy, Drama and New Series categories
The writers of the series “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Hacks” and “What We Do in the Shadows” are nominated in the “Comedy Series” category. The choices in the race for best script for a “drama series” are: “The Boys,” “The Diplomat,” “Fallout,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “Shōgun.”
The authors of “English Teacher”, “Fallout”, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, “Nobody Wants This” and “Shōgun” can also look forward to being nominated in the “New Series” category.
What is WGA?
The WGA winners will be announced on February 15 at simultaneous ceremonies in New York at the Edison Ballroom and in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Since 1949, the Writers Guild of America Awards have honored outstanding literary achievements in film, television, streaming, news, radio and advertising in various categories.
