Celebrities and influencers are currently posting numerous calls for help for the victims of the devastating fires in Los Angeles. Not all help is well received.
Anyone who has a large reach has to help. That seems to be the motto on the internet right now in light of the fires in Los Angeles. Celebrities and influencers have been using their positions on social networks to support the victims of the disaster. Many thousands of citizens of the metropolis have lost their homes as a result of the devastating fires, the full extent of which cannot yet be predicted.
Celebrity help doesn’t go down well with everyone
But not all help from celebrities is well received. Not even with other celebrities. Kelly Osbourne recently expressed outrage online in a video that she has since deleted: “Am I just as cynical as ever, or is it really disturbing to see all these celebrities using other people’s pain and suffering as a photo op? to say, ‘Look, I’m helping, I’m doing this, I’m doing that,'” said musician Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter. “I don’t think you help so you can get attention. I think you just help because you want to,” she added.
Osbourne did not explain who exactly she was referring to. In the comments under her post, fans speculated that she could be referring to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, who traveled from Montecito, California to Los Angeles to help on site. They were – of course – captured by photographers. The pictures of Meghan hugging those affected then went around the world.
Musician Tommy Lee is also bothered by some celebrities and their behavior during the natural disaster. On Instagram he was upset about all those colleagues who continued to publish posts despite the fires as if nothing had happened. “It makes me fucking sick to see that most people just keep posting on lame social media,” said the drummer. “Guys, right now nobody cares when your record comes out or the next concert is when so many people are in the middle of one of the biggest disasters of all time!” he complained.
Los Angeles Fire Department reports progress
The fires in the greater Los Angeles area have claimed 25 lives so far, and some people are still missing. According to initial estimates, more than 12,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged in the region, including numerous celebrity homes.
The fire department is now slowly gaining the upper hand against the fires. A good week after the deadly Eaton fire broke out near Pasadena, this major fire is now almost half under control. According to the authorities, the large-scale “Palisades” fire on the western edge of Los Angeles has barely spread recently.
