Who wants to buy Udo Jürgens’ glass grand piano?

99 items from Udo Jürgens’ estate will soon be auctioned off. The musician even had his glass grand piano flown to the Swiss Alps.

Udo Jürgens’ glass concert grand piano can be purchased in an online auction at the end of the month – cost: an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 euros. The auction house Sotheby’s is auctioning off the grand piano and many other memorabilia from the estate of the musician, who died in 2014, from January 23rd to 30th.

The glass grand piano accompanied Jürgens to many of his performances. In 1983, he even had the grand piano flown from a helicopter to the Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Alps for his album “Traumtäumer”. There he played the instrument in the middle of the snow – “I’ve never been so cold before,” he said afterwards. Jürgens’ best-known songs include “Merci Chérie”, “Greek Wine” and “At 66 Years”.

A total of 99 lot numbers will be auctioned. The preliminary estimate of the entire collection is between 370,000 and 500,000 euros.

One of the entertainer’s trademarks was a white bathrobe that he wore at the end of his live concerts. The auction offer includes a terry cloth bathrobe signed by German footballers. Works of art from his possession will also be auctioned, including a sculpture by Hans Arp and a work on paper by Gustav Klimt. The artist Manfred Bockelmann, Udo Jürgens’ brother, is also represented with four paintings. One of Jürgens’ songs is called: “My brother is a painter”.
