For a year and a half, a woman from France is said to have thought that she was having a digital liaison with the Hollywood beau. The 53-year-old has fallen victim to a so-called love scam or romance scam. In this scam, perpetrators deceive their victims into having a romantic relationship online in order to fleece them financially. The woman described her experiences in the TV program “Sept à huit” on the TF1 channel. In total, the fraudster relieved her of around 830,000 euros.

According to the reports, the criminals used fake social media and WhatsApp accounts to dupe the French woman. As the broadcaster “BFM TV” reports, the deception began at the beginning of 2023. The woman is said to have been suspicious at first, but she eventually fell for the scam. The story has now reached Brad Pitt himself.

The actor released a statement through his spokesman, which was available to the “E! News” portal: “It’s terrible that fraudsters take advantage of fans’ strong ties to celebrities. But this case is an important reminder not to approach strangers’ online contacts react, especially from actors who are not present on social media.”

Love scammers often try to arouse women’s sympathy by feigning love. This is also the case with the French woman, who has now shown courage and made her story public to warn others.

Accordingly, the victim, who was married to a wealthy entrepreneur at the time, received a message in February 2023 from a person who claimed to be Brad Pitt’s mother. Shortly afterwards, a person contacted another account and pretended to be the actor himself. They communicated with each other for a year and a half.

The scammer used fake social media profiles and AI-generated images, including supposed selfies of Pitt and a copy of his passport. At one point he claimed he needed financial help for cancer treatment because his accounts were frozen due to legal proceedings related to his divorce from Angelina Jolie. According to her own statement, the woman transferred him hundreds of thousands of euros. In the summer of 2024, she recognized the fraud when she saw a photo of Brad Pitt with his partner Inés de Ramón.

The French woman filed a complaint. After realizing the fraud, she suffered from severe depression, which even landed her in the hospital.
