After an operation at the Oslo Imperial Hospital, Queen Sonja can spend the weekend at home. The royal family reports that she is doing well.
The Norwegian Queen Sonja (87) survived an operation on her heart well. After a pacemaker was inserted into her on Thursday, the wife of Head of State King Harald V (87) was released from the Oslo Imperial Hospital one day later. “The Queen is in good shape,” reported the Norwegian royal family. However, she is initially on sick leave for a week.
Sonja was temporarily taken to the hospital in the city of Lillehammer, around 140 kilometers north of Oslo, for observation at the weekend because of atrial fibrillation during a ski trip. After a short time she was discharged from the hospital with a normal heart rhythm. However, it was then decided to insert a pacemaker into her. Her husband has also been wearing such a pacemaker for almost a year.
