After five years of his professional retirement, Jonas Gutierrez will be added to Las Toninas Social and Sports Club to compete in the La Costa League at 41 years old.
This return marked a historic event, since it will be the first time that a footballer who played in a World Cup participates in this regional league.
The district of La Costa, where the former player has lived for several years, became the scene of this outstanding event in the local sports field.
Gutiérrez, a native of Sáenz Peña, Chaco, and resident in Las Toninas, has a highly prestigious professional career.
“El Galgo” represented the Argentine National Team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he played three games under the direction of Diego Maradona and shared a team with figures such as Lionel Messi, Juan Sebastián Verón and Javier Mascherano.
His talent and commitment gave him a privileged place in international football, being especially remembered for his time at Newcastle United, a club that paid him tribute in 2022 for his contribution to the team.

His career began at Vélez Sarsfield in 2001 and continued at Mallorca in Spain before arriving at Newcastle in 2008, where he remained until 2015.
Returning to Argentina, he played for clubs such as Defensa y Justicia, Independiente, Banfield and Almagro, without having the same brilliance as in Europe.
In 2013, he overcame testicular cancer that not only tested his personal strength, but also left an example of improvement in the sporting world. Finally, he announced his retirement in November 2021.
Social Las Toninas concluded the last La Costa League championship in 11th position, in a tournament that featured 14 teams from the region.
