Zooey and Emily Deschanel lost their childhood home in the LA fires. The “New Girl” star said this on his 45th birthday.

Zooey Deschanel (45) mourned her destroyed childhood home on her 45th birthday. Like the actress, her former home fell victim to the fires in Los Angeles. In addition to her, sister Emily Deschanel (48) also grew up in the house. For the “New Girl” star, it was “sacred” and a “refuge” in which she felt very safe.

Deschanel has a lot in common with the house

“Christmas dinner, Easter egg hunts, collecting candy on Halloween, weddings, birthdays, baby showers… we celebrated the most beautiful moments of our lives there,” she said, looking back on special days. All “memories of past generations” such as family photos or her great-great-grandfather’s furniture have now “disappeared into thin air.”

However, the house was not only special because of the memories. According to Deschanel, the 1920s Spanish Revival-style home was one of the oldest homes in the Pasadena neighborhood. “It wasn’t a villa, but to me it was cozy and beautiful and unique and perfect,” she explained. Because of the four-meter-high ceilings with stained glass windows in the living room, it was named “The Church” by a childhood friend. Her fans were able to get a picture of the then and current condition of the house through the attached pictures. She also shared three other recordings that were taken on site.

Actress is grateful for numerous help

Deschanel’s longtime home is one of more than 12,300 homes destroyed by the devastating California fires. The actress continued: “I know we are not alone. Along with another beautiful neighborhood in LA, Altadena, the streets of my childhood in Pacific Palisades as we knew them have been all but wiped out. So many people have so much lost.” She also thanked all the helpers and called the firefighters her “true heroes.”

But she is also grateful for the support of her friends. “You wrote and called, you visited us, you cooked us food, you sent clothes to my parents who had nothing left, you distracted us with your humor and you cried with us when we needed it” said Deschanel. Strangers also brightened the mood with their help. “You have no idea how much this means to us.”

Given her birthday, she added in the comments how “weird” it felt to celebrate that day. Stars such as Kate Hudson (45), Deschanel’s former series colleague Max Greenfield (45) and her fiancé Jonathan Scott (46) expressed their condolences under their post.
