In the British royal family, she is considered an important supporter who advocates for difficult issues: Duchess Sophie – sister-in-law of King Charles III. – turns 60 today. She will celebrate her birthday in a private setting with her husband, Charles’ youngest brother Prince Edward, reported the British news agency PA.

The palace previously released a new photo of the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie’s official title. Last year she took on several high-profile appearances for the Royals.

In the spring she became the first member of the royal family to travel to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression. Sophie has long been campaigning against sexual violence – she also traveled to Chad and met women there who had fled the civil war in Sudan. She also encourages people to talk more openly about menopause and menstruation.

When Princess Kate took part in a large memorial for those who died in the World War after the end of her chemotherapy, Sophie stood by her side and put a protective hand on her back for a moment.

Edward and Sophie have been married for more than 25 years and have two children, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James Mountbatten-Windsor, who bears the title of Earl of Wessex.
