What will become of Bourne? NDR makes a huge secret out of it

Will he die? Will he just retire? The last case with Axel Milberg as Kiel’s “crime scene” commissioner runs on March 16th on the first. The station is keeping a low profile as to how this crime thriller ends.
Life is never as dangerous for a TV commissioner as in his last case. ZDF investigator Erwin Köster (Siegfried Lowitz) was shot in front of the television audience in 1986, which was still a scandal at the time. “Steirerkrimi” cop Sandra Mohr (Miriam Stein) felt the same way in 2021.
In the same year, “Tatort” investigator Christian Ulmen even appeared as a ghost in his last episode in the role of Inspector Lessing. So now Klaus Borowski alias Axel Milberg (68). What’s in store for him? Will he die? Be retired? Sail away along the fjord? This should remain top secret until the last moment.
Already top secret on the Rostock “Polizeiruf 110”.
That’s why Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) doesn’t even show television critics the end of the Sunday evening crime drama before it’s broadcast on March 16th. The last few minutes are cut off in the press copy. “How the crime thriller with Borowski ends should remain a surprise, which will only be revealed when it is broadcast on Erste on March 16, 2025. We ask for your understanding.”
The NDR made a similar secrecy in 2022 about the exit of Charly Hübner as Sascha Bukow from the Rostock “Polizeiruf 110”. The ending was rather disappointingly unspectacular: in the penultimate scene, Bukow simply drove away from the city in a pickup truck.
The last Kiel “crime scene” with Milberg is called “Borowski and the Head of Medusa”. Filming for this took place at the beginning of 2024. The Kiel investigator is about to retire. A few days before retirement, Borowski wants to have his passport extended at the citizens’ office because he is thinking about traveling. There, however, he gets involved in an outrageous case and also has to deal with clerk Robert Frost (August Diehl). He only has four days to clear things up.
Milberg was regularly in front of the camera in the north for his role from 2003 to the beginning of 2024. The first episode “Fathers” ran at the end of November 2003. “Borowski and the Head of Medusa” is his 43rd case as Kiel’s “crime scene” detective.
