Arnold Schwarzenegger is also not left unaffected by the events in and around Los Angeles: the actor is donating a generous sum of money.
Arnold Schwarzenegger (77) announces a donation of one million dollars (equivalent to 960,000 euros). The actor announced on January 21st that he would distribute the money to three different organizations that support the fire victims in Los Angeles. He will finance the donation out of his own pocket. “I don’t like it when companies or rich people ask their fans to donate to them,” said Schwarzenegger.
At the same time, the 77-year-old admitted in the post that many of his fans had asked him how they could help. “That’s why I had my team design a T-shirt […] “The shirt might look familiar – it’s based on an LA classic, the fake one of mine that’s sold to tourists on the Venice boardwalk, except I get to use my image,” Schwarzenegger captioned the post that featured the design shows.
The top costs 34.95 euros and is available in seven different sizes – from XS to XXXXL. The former bodybuilder wants to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the same three organizations.
Numerous stars donate
Schwarzenegger isn’t the only celebrity who has contributed to supporting victims in and around Los Angeles. Among other things, singer Beyoncé (43) announced on January 12th that her charitable foundation BeyGOOD was donating 2.5 million US dollars (around 2.4 million euros). “The fund is intended for families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who have lost their homes, as well as churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” the foundation said.
Eva Longoria (49) also donated one million dollars to two different organizations with her foundation, the Eva Longoria Foundation – on January 13th. According to the site, the sum comes from the $50 million prize money from the Courage and Civility Award, which Longoria received last year from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (61). The actress also traveled to Los Angeles to do volunteer work there.
Celebrities sing for victims of the fire disaster
In addition to donations and voluntary work, numerous stars are gathering for the “FireAid” charity event in Inglewood in the Los Angeles area in one week. “The ‘FireAid’ Benefit Concert will be held on January 30th at the Intuit Dome and Kia Forum and is dedicated to rebuilding communities devastated by wildfires. Donate […] “will be used for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California under the supervision of the Annenberg Foundation,” it said.
At the concert, Stevie Wonder (74), Olivia Rodrigo (21) and Billie Eilish (23), among others, will sing for the victims of the fire disaster.
Several fires have been raging in the US metropolis for several weeks. According to several media reports, at least 27 people lost their lives.
