Ivanka Trump’s appearance in an Audrey Hepburn dress was met with a lot of criticism. Now Hepburn’s son explained his point of view.

After Ivanka Trump’s (43) appearance in an iconic Audrey Hepburn dress, the actress’ eldest son spoke out. The daughter of US President Donald Trump (78) appeared at the Liberty Ball on Monday evening (January 20th) in a copy of the dress that Hepburn wore in the film “Sabrina” (1954). Some people online then criticized the fashion brand Givenchy and Ivanka Trump for the collaboration. They cited the different political views of Hepburn and the presidential family as the reason.

Like Sean Hepburn Ferrer (64), it is still “no wonder” that Donald Trump’s daughter reminded of his mother. He justified his assumption that the name Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993) was well known in the presidential family. That’s why he’s not surprised that Ivanka “took inspiration from her to find the ultimate elegance and class for an occasion like this – the inauguration, the 32nd anniversary of our mother’s death and especially the Martin Luther King Day”.

Amid criticism surrounding the dress, Hepburn Ferrer explained that his mother “fought for disadvantaged children around the world, regardless of the ideological environment in which they were born.” Politically, she apparently has little in common with Trump. According to the Daily Mail, he suggested that her views were closer to those of Bishop Mariann Budde than to those of the president. In a speech, the bishop asked Trump for “mercy” for those who are now afraid, such as sexual minorities. She also preached that the “vast majority of immigrants are not “criminals.”

Audrey Hepburn as a great role model for celebrities

Hepburn Ferrer also spoke about his mother’s role as a fashion role model. “Her elegance, rooted in her inner beauty and spirit, is often a point of reference, an anchor for many celebrities, actresses and models in these times when we seem to have lost the way a little,” Hepburn Ferrer led out of. The acting icon’s legacy has “developed into a legacy that spans generations and countries.”

He also found an explanation for Ivanka’s fashion choice in the long-standing connection between the family of Donald Trump and Audrey Hepburn. The ex-wife of the newly sworn in US President, Marla Ann Maples (61), sat on the advisory board of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund. According to the Daily Mail, the organization also organized a charity event for Donald Trump’s daughter Tiffany (31) in the 1990s. The event took place under the name “Breakfast with Tiffany” based on Hepburn’s similarly titled film.
