According to Prince-Harry-Deal: Hugh Grant, police investigations against the owners of the British newspaper “The Sun” calls for police investigations.
The British acting star Hugh Grant (64) has spoken out with the British tabloid newspaper “The Sun” after the legal dispute by Prince Harry (40). Grant had also acted against the allegedly illegal methods of the newspaper for procurement of information and ultimately agreed out of court. The actor is now asking the police to determine in the cases.
The British Boulevard newspaper “The Sun” in the litigation ended with Prince Harry “completely and unmistakably” apologized for illegal listening methods and surveillance, as it became known last Wednesday. According to information from the US magazine “People”, financial compensation is also more than ten million British pounds, so the equivalent of almost twelve million euros.
Hugh Grant had reportedly agreed out of court. Grant accused the responsible Verlag News Group Newspapers (NGN) that journalists used private detectives to listen to his phone and break into his house. NGN had rejected the allegations. Grant said in April 2024 on platform X that he had been forced to agree. Although he would like to go to court, there is a risk that he would have to pay the legal fees on both sides that could amount to around £ ten million.
Does the fight against the boulevard press continue?
According to Grant, the two cases showed that a civil process is “not the right instrument”, as he now explained. The task was “far from being done” and to find out “the true truth” about the processes at the newspaper, it would need police investigations. As Grant reports, the News Group Newspapers has to prevent a criminal investigation for years. “You spent a billion pounds to ensure that these things are never examined in court that you do not receive any decent judicial results.”
An investigation is also necessary because people who were at the newspaper at the time were still in “positions with great power”. “The people who ordered all of this are still there,” said Grant. Only “many of the foot soldiers of these newspapers” have now changed and explained “that this is terrible,” emphasized the actor.
Politicians Tom Watson (58) agreed, like Prince Harry, with NGN. He wrote on Wednesday: “Like any other person who was persecuted by News Group Newspapers, I wished that they had left my family alone. But what happened happened.” He further explained: “Today I am glad that you have finally taken on responsibility. I am glad that you apologized and recognized the direct damage that has arisen from the years of illegal surveillance by your journalists and her army of private detectives – Not only for my family, but also for Prince Harry and his family. “
At the prince, he thanked him for his “unshakable support and his determination under exceptional pressure. His bravery and amazing courage have part of the media that thought was inviolable.” Watson added to Mark Rowley (60), Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police,: “Will the Metropolitan Police act if you receive our dossier, uncovered the grievances?” The BBC also reports that Watson’s team of lawyers will hand over a dossier to the Metropolitan Police. According to the broadcaster, the police announced on Friday that there were no active investigations because of the allegation of telephone hacking or similar methods.
