Reverse nepotism? Andie MacDowell says she’s currently benefiting from the success of her daughter Margaret Qualley.

“Nepotism” is a topic that is always the subject of debate in the entertainment industry. But who says that only so-called “nepo-babies”, i.e. children of prominent parents, can benefit from this system? Actress Andie MacDowell (66) is certain: Thanks to her daughter Margaret Qualley (30), she is currently experiencing the opposite, “reverse nepotism.”

Her daughter’s success puts her in a whole new light, MacDowell explained. “I’m cool now because I’m Margaret Qualley’s mother. And Jack Antonoff’s mother-in-law. It’s a double whammy.”

Shooting star Margaret Qualley is MacDowell’s youngest child and celebrated her breakthrough after several supporting roles, including in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” and in 2021 in the Netflix series “Maid”, for which she auditioned together with her mother the camera stood. She has since appeared in several films, including “Poor Things”, “Kinds of Kindness” and “The Substance”. The latter role earned her a nomination at the Golden Globes. Qualley has been married to music producer Jack Antonoff (40) since August 2023.

“She’s much braver”

MacDowell is visibly proud of Qualley’s success with “The Substance”: “The film is fantastic and she’s so daring. She’s much braver than I ever could have been. She’s really forged her own path and I’m super proud on her,” said the 66-year-old in an interview with Fallon.

MacDowell herself had her big breakthrough in 1993 in the comedy “Groundhog Day” alongside Bill Murray (74). She was nominated for a Golden Globe three times. In addition to acting, she works as a model, including for the cosmetics company L’Oréal.
