For the 60-year-old, it is a return to his professional roots. For almost three decades, he worked as a sought -after and renowned economic lawyer. In 2000 he founded his own boutique law firm, which he sold in 2006. He gave up his last position as a partner at DLA Piper in 2020 when his wife was elected to the office of democratic vice president.

Doug Emhoff has been married to Kamala Harris since August 2014. At that time, the two were coupled by a girlfriend – the beginning of a love story that continues to this day. While it is the first marriage for Harris, Emhoff had previously been married to film producer Kerstin Mackin (57) from 1992 to 2008. Two adult children come from this connection: son Cole (30) and daughter Ella (25).

When his wife was sworn in at the beginning of 2021 as the first vice president of the United States, Emhoff initially put his own career behind. “I am primarily a husband and a father and support her in every conceivable way,” he said at the time in an interview with NBC. He demonstrated this support last year during his wife’s historical presidential election campaign. With their current professional restart, both show that political ambitions and legal career can be reconciled.
